Mary Gutierrez is a senior associate attorney with James R. Gotwals and Associates, Inc. and an Of Counsel member of Barrow & Grimm, P.C. She has extensive experience in the areas of family and domestic law, probate, general litigation, and appellate work. She received her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Tulsa in 1973. After an 18-year career with McGraw-Hill, Ms. Gutierrez returned to TU and received her Juris Doctorate with Honor from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1999.
While in law school, Ms. Gutierrez was a member of the Tulsa Law Journal and served as Research Editor, Notes and Comments. She received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for Legal Authorities and Appellate Advocacy. Her article “Oklahoma’s New Adoption Code and Disclosure of Identifying Information” was published in The Tulsa Law Journal.
Upon graduation, Ms. Gutierrez immediately joined the law firm of James R. Gotwals and Associates, Inc. She is licensed to practice in all Oklahoma courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Ms. Gutierrez has handled many appeals, generating six published cases: Boatman v. Boatman, 2017 OK 27, 404 P.3d 722; Clark v. McConnell, 2014 OK CIV APP 64, 330 P.3d 1226; Briggeman v. Hargrove, 2014 OK CIV APP 13, 318 P.3d 1130; Phillips v. Williams, 2010 OK CIV APP 98, 241 P.3d 696; Shirley v. Shirley, 2004 OK CIV APP 100, 104 P.3d 1142; and Peyravy v. Peyravy, 2003 OK 92, 84 P.3d 720.
Ms. Gutierrez’s professional memberships include the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Tulsa County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
